Is 1 year sufficient for IAS preparation without coaching?

Is 1 year sufficient for IAS preparation without coaching?

Yes, 1 year is sufficient for IAS preparation without coaching. If you do focus study then you can clear this exam in your first attempt. Preparing for UPSC itself is a full time job ,during preparation you need to work hard daily at least 6-8 hours.

First and foremost you should be well versed with your self-evaluation. Knowing where you stand versus where you want to reach makes the job all the easier. The candidate is able to devise an appropriate time table that shall enable him to prepare for the IAS exam successfully.

The upsc is focusing on current affairs in prelims and mains. I suggest you go through the syllabus thoroughly and then accordingly prepare current affairs from topics as per the syllabus . You need to be prepared for each stage prelims , mains and personality test each has its own challenges . Prelims will test your concepts + facts , mains is more analytical .You need a deeper sense of understanding to clear it . Discuss various issues , make a habit of going into depth for every issue .

During one year preparation you need to follow proper strategy to crack the exam.

Divide your  one year into 3 phases:

Phase 1

Strengthen your basic with NCERT.  Starts with NCERT of political science, history, economics ,geography and science .build your strong foundation in phase 1 go for standard books after completing all ncert of all subjects.

Phase 2

After phase 1 now go for phase 2 ,it includes subject wise study of all subjects from ncert to standard books .after all ncert and standard books,go for subject study of all subjects (only read essential books)

Phase 3

Phase 3 is for revision. Dedicate last 2 months at least for revision and decide your source for easy revision. After that Evaluate your progress by previous year question papers.

Newspaper must be your daily job . If you make a habit of reading then you can have the chance to reduce the time for this task.
