Why in News?

  • Isro’s PSLV-C43 successfully injects earth observation injects earth observation satellite HysIS. HysIS is a very rare satellite with a super-sharp eye, and very few countries have indigenously mastered this technology.
  • The Satellite has been dubbed as “Chhotta Bheem” after a famous Indian cartoon.

About HysIS:

  • HysIS is an earth observation satellite developed by ISRO.
  • It is the primary satellite of the PSLV-C43 mission.
  • the HysIS was injected into a precise orbit of 636 km polar sun synchronous orbit (SSO) with an inclination of 97.957 deg.
  • The mission life of the satellite is 5 years
  • The primary goal of HysIS is to study the earth’s surface in visible, near infrared and shortwave infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum.
  • The co-passengers of HysIS include one Micro and 29 Nano satellites from eight different countries
  • In its 13th flight of the Core-Alone version and 45 launch of the PSLV, ISRO carried one satellite each from Australia, Canada, Colombia, Finland, Malaysia, Netherlands and Spain, and 23 satellites from the USA on board as co-passengers of the HysIS.

  1. HysIS, 30 other satellites on PSLV have been placed in the orbit
  2. The 45th flight of the PSLV was launched by ISRO from Sriharikota
  3. Hyperspectral Imaging Satellite is meant to study earth’s surface
  4. All the foreign satellites were placed in a 504 km orbit.

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) holds the record for launching the highest number of satellites in a single mission – 104 -on February 15, 2017.
  • ISRO’s Chairman is Mr. K. Sivan
